CARMELA “MILLIE” DANKO

December 31, 1924 - August 15, 2017

Millie grew up in Manhattan, with her father (Angelo), mother (Nancy) and three older brothers Andy, Tony and Mike who she adored.  She shared many stories from her youth about how much she learned from her brothers and how much she loved her family.  In her younger days she was a singer in a band, a dancer and into every sport imaginable.  She was a particularly skilled basketball player and led the 14th Street Debs to multiple New York City Titles.

Her husband (Albert) preceded her in death.  Millie was a huge support to Albert in his career as a horse trainer.  There are many happy family memories of the time that was spent together as a family when they traveled to upstate New York when the racing moved to Saratoga.  

Mille stayed active throughout her life and became an avid bowler, softball player and swimmer.  She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends.  Every weekend was time spent with family. 

Millie had a long career at LILCO.  After she retired, she became very active at the Elmont Senior Center where she organized and participated in many events.  She also volunteered at the Elmont Memorial Library where she taught exercise and dance classes to seniors.  She loved the friends that she made at both the Senior Center and the Library.

Millie was cared for in her later years by her beloved daughter, Ann Michele, who faithfully took care of both Millie and Albert. She has a son, John Danko and has four grandchildren Braeden, Evan, Brittany and Ryan.  

Millie loved her life, her family, her friends and was often the life of the party.  There is no doubt that heaven became a much more exciting place to be when “Chillie Millie” joined the party there.
