Yvonne Louidor Bastien was born on March 28, 1950, in St. Louis du Nord, Haiti. She was one of four children born to Alcindor Louidor and Mary Madeline (née Semelfort) Louidor. Yvonne’s siblings include brothers Theodore (deceased) and Brunel, and her sister Mary Madeline Louidor. Yvonne attended primary school (Études Classique) at St. Agnes in St. Louis-du-Nord and received her secondary education (Brévet Supérieur) in Port-de-Paix. She completed her education at Elie du Bois in Port-au-Prince.
Yvonne left Haiti for New York City in 1971. She enrolled at Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in business administration. After earning her degree, Yvonne worked as a teletyper. She spent 22 years with the Prudential Insurance Company before changing careers and becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Yvonne married Theonome Bastien on April 6, 1991, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She gained two young sons with this marriage, Rulx and Thierry, and the family established their home on Long Island. Yvonne had a quiet and peaceful temperament. She was soft-spoken, calm, and thoughtful. Despite her quiet nature, she was a people-person and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In retirement, Yvonne spent time doing all the things she loved. Her lifelong hobbies and interests included sewing, baking, and shopping. Her IPad was a constant companion, and she enjoyed playing games, surfing the web, and taking photos. Yvonne loved God and was a regular attendee at church. She loved traveling and visited countries all over the world with her church and with her family and friends.
Yvonne passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024. She was at home, surrounded by family and friends. She will forever remain in our hearts. She is survived by her husband, Theonome Bastien;her stepson, Rulx Bastien; her siblings Brunel Louidor and Mary Louidor; her sisters-in-law Mrs. Alourdes Louidor and Mrs. Leonne B. Honoré; her nephews and nieces; and many, many cousins.
