William "Bill" Erskine Obituary

William "Bill" Erskine was born June 1, 1944 in St Michael Parrish Barbados to George Balfour & Cynthia Elaine Erskine. At the age of 16 he moved to New York where he attended & graduated from Newtown High School. In 1964 at a party in Harlem he met the love of his life Angela Eusabia Morales (Cookie). They got married April 5, 1965. From that union they had 3 beautiful daughters Andrea Michele (Mush), Lynette Wynona (L.E.) and their baby Tiffany Tiana (Tiff).

Bill was a hard worker and a great manager never leaving until the job was complete.  Bill worked many jobs. He was a film developer, a crew scheduler for flight attendants and later a manager in the freight department for United Airlines.  He then went on to open his own courier company Balfour Express where he gave some of the neighborhood kids jobs. After closing that business, he continued in the courier field and worked for Gold Wings and finally GIO Express.  Bill had several hobbies.  He was a bowler and often traveled all over the world with the airline bowling team and he loved to play golf.  We would come home to him practicing his putting hitting the golf ball into cups he placed around the living room.

His favorite job which he did flawlessly was a DAD to all.  He was dad to all the neighborhood kids and all the track kids whether they were on his team or not. Bill loved track and field.  He was a half-miler in his day.  He was co-captain for his Newtown H.S. track team. He even competed in the Melrose games, as he says, in the old Madison Square Gardens.  His daughters followed in his footsteps and also ran track.  Everyone thinks track started with the 2 younger daughters but what most people do not know is it really started with the oldest daughter Michele. She ran track first.

When the younger two wanted to continue running, Bill and Cookie co-founded the Laurelton Flames Track Club in 1984.  Bill was like a father to all of the girls that ran over the many years he had the track club. He was most proud of all of the kids he was able to help both on and off the track.

He was affectionately known as Daddy to us, Dat Dat to his grands, Erp to some and Mr. E to most.

He leaves behind his 3 daughters Andrea, Lynette and Tiffany, his only granddaughter Te-Ana, grandson- in-law Ronald, 3 grandsons Nasir, Damani, Taliq, 3 great grandsons Xavier, Cai, Noah, 1 brother Vendal Babb, 1 sister Gloria Chase, childhood friends Leslie and Lawson, favorite cousin Carol, sisters-in-law, nephews,  nieces, cousins, relatives, friends and a host of surrogate children and grandchildren.
