Susan Gass-Kohtz, 67, cherished mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sue was born in Huntington, NY, on November 21, 1955, and grew up in Lawrence, NY. After graduating from Lawrence High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University. She went on to become a successful entrepreneur, founding and running a home mortgage company in Roslyn, NY, from 1989 through 2008. Later, she began a new chapter as a financial advisor, serving local clients up until her death. She genuinely loved her work; it centered on connecting with people, building relationships and helping others secure their futures.
Sue could only be described as a people person, which not only shaped her career but also defined her view of the world as a place to make as many personal connections as time would allow. She truly enjoyed learning about the people she engaged with and building many long-standing friendships. She brought this passion and dedication everywhere she went and never stopped wanting to experience life, whether that meant moving to a new state or traveling to meet new people and discover interesting places.
Sue greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a passion for hosting parties, and firmly believed "the more the merrier." She never needed an excuse to gather with those she loved.
Sue is survived by her children, Phil Gass (Anna), Ryan Gass (Melissa), and Morgen Kohtz, along with her grandchildren: Alessandra, Veronica, Dante, Owen, and Adeline. She is also survived by her son Jordan Gass and his two children, and her siblings, Carol Itskowitz and Robert Novello. She was predeceased by her parents, Harriet Marks-Nelson and Thomas Novello.
