Rosemary Goni, was born Rosemary McKutcherson on December 24, 1929 in Brooklyn New York to Thaddeus McKutcherson and Maude McKutcherson. She was the youngest of eight children, who have preceded her in death – Willie, Beatrice, Phyllis, Eunice, George, and two sisters who died in infancy. Rose was a high-spirited child who grew up under her older sister Beatrice’s and (brother-in-law) Thomas Crumpe’s care after her parents died. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948. Upon graduation, Rose joined AT&T telecommunications company (now Verizon) as a switchboard operator, retiring as a supervisor in 1983.
On July 3rd, 1954, she married the love of her life, Abdul Goni. This union gave them one daughter Beatrice Ann, whom she cherished dearly. Rose grew into the matriarch of her family – her focus and joy centered around raising and providing for her daughter, grandsons and great grandchildren. There are endless tales of Nana and her grandsons’ antics! Her laughter filled the air in the home. She always welcomed everyone with a smile and a story.
Rose leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved daughter, Beatrice Ann Giles; her grandsons Matthew, Joseph and Julian; her granddaughters-in-law Christine and Jessica, her great-grandchildren Christian and Anna; and, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rose passed away peacefully on the morning of November 25, 2024 at 94 years old. Her life is a celebration of family and love. She will be forever missed.
