Pierre Alfred Dominique (affectionately known as Alfred or Fredo), was born in Saint du Nord, Haiti, on April 7, 1945 to parents: Turgot Dominique and Imalia Telfort. He was the youngest of their seven children: Edmee, Henry, Bernadin, Joseph Prisnel (Keket), Ertha all of whom are deceased with exception of Marguerite (Olcie). He grew up in a family that instilled in him values that shaped his character, which served him well his entire life. Alfred was a man of few words, yet his quiet demeanor held a depth of wisdom that resonated with all who knew him. From a young age, he displayed a profound love for knowledge and curiosity about history, politics and education. His studies lead to him becoming a civil engineer apprentice at J.B. Damien Technical College. In 1973, he decided to move to the Bahamas in search of a better life. However, a year later he and his friend Ti Daniel left for New York City in the United States of America. There Alfred fell in love with and married, Euranie Dupereme Pierre-Louis (affectionately known as Miranna). Together they built a life based on hard work, and dedication. Alfred found a job as a taxi cab driver, a profession that allowed him to help provide for his growing family. Together they had two children, Hugo and Eunice. In the spring of 2023, Euranie departed this life and went to be with the Lord. Alfred was always a pillar of unwavering support, for his loved ones through good and bad times. He helped to provide for his nieces and nephews back home in Haiti, to ensure that they would not just survive; but in fact thrive. Alfred’s passion for music was a defining part of his life, bringing him moments of joy and reflection in the melodies that spoke to his heart. He loved to listen to music from bands like Septen and Tropicana d’ Haiti, among many others. He went on to become a major supporter and financial backer of a band called Diplomat. He enjoyed hosting friends and family at home on Sundays; they would eat, drink, discuss politics and listen to music. Alfred went on to work for Star Cruiser Transportation until his retirement in the early 2000s.
In his later years Alfred remained close to his only surviving sibling, Olcee along with the rest of his loved ones. He liked to travel home to Haiti, whenever he was able to do so. Although his health started to decline, his intellect was sharp… He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, listening to Haitian news on the radio, playing the lottery and of course listening to his music. In the early hours of Christmas Day, Alfred passed away unexpectedly. As we bid farewell to him, we must remember that his legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to resonate in our hearts. His life was proof of the human capacity to weather storms, while embracing joy despite life’s obstacles. He left an indelible mark those fortunate enough to have known and loved him. Although he is no longer with us, we take solace in knowing that Pierre Alfred Dominique was a gentle man. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us to embrace the virtues he embodied. Rest in peace Fredo, as you reunite with loved ones in the embrace of the Lord.
