Mavis Henry — a devoted warrior of Christ, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mavis was born in Saint Catherine, Jamaica, to Gladys Burke and Leonard Campbell. She was one of eleven children on her mother’s side and four on her father’s. From her earliest years, Mavis was known for her determination, her kindness, and her unwavering faith in God.
After completing her early education, Mavis moved to Kingston, Jamaica, where she continued to pursue her dreams. Her desire to serve others led her to England, where she studied nursing. Later, she returned to Jamaica to follow another passion — teaching. Mavis went on to earn her teaching degree and dedicated herself to shaping young minds at St. Theresa’s Prep School and later Trench Town High School, where she taught for many years.
Mavis married the love of her life, William Henry, and together they shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Their union was built on faith, respect, and deep love. Though William passed away ten years before her, Mavis often spoke of him with fondness and gratitude for the life they had built together
She leaves behind a beautiful legacy —
her beloved daughters Michelle, Jennifer & Devolyn
Her cherished grandchildren: Michael, Shanon, Amoy, Colleen, Reva, CJ, Alyssa, and Adailah.
Her precious great-grandchildren Dylan and Michaela.
She is also remembered by her sons-in-law, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, church family, and the many lives she touched in Jamaica, England, and the United States.
Rest in Peace, Mavis. Your wings were ready but our hearts were not.
