Marisa Lynnette Mohammed, 62, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Marisa was born on April 20, 1963, in Manhattan New York to Henry and Patricia Finnely. She spent her early years in Upstate New York and New Jersey, where she enjoyed a close-knit childhood with her family. Later, she moved to New York City with her mother and siblings, Andrea and Randall. Marisa graduated from Sarah J. Hale High School in Brooklyn and continued her education at City College of New York.
In 1984, Marisa married her love, Elton Mohammed, and together they welcomed the greatest joy of her life—twin sons, Brandon and Brian, who survive her. She resided in Queens New York for the remainder of her years.
Marisa lived a life defined by service, compassion, and unwavering generosity. She took great pride in helping others, always going above and beyond to make those around her feel supported and cared for. Her professional journey included decades of dedicated service with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Gateway Corps, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where she built lifelong friendships and left a lasting impact over 25 years.
Those who knew Marisa will remember her as a creative spirit with a generous heart. Whether she was crafting personalized holiday gifts for her grandchildren, decorating for office celebrations, or lovingly caring for her disabled brother for over 15 years, Marisa gave of herself without hesitation. She was a natural nurturer and a source of strength for many.
Marisa was also known for her quick wit and unmistakable sense of humor. She had a way of making people laugh without even trying and could light up a room with her presence. But she was also fiercely protective of those she loved and never shied away from speaking her mind—qualities that made her unforgettable to everyone who knew her.
Marisa Lynnette Mohammed fought a mighty battle with cancer that led to her early departure from us. Marisa Lynnette Mohammed leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and selfless service. She will be deeply missed by her sons Brian and Brandon Mohammed, her siblings Andrea and Randall, her former husband Elton, her grandchildren Zara, Zemirah, Zelah, Zamar and Zaire, her daughter-in-law Kathie, ( her nephews Myles and Trey,), extended family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
