The Etienne family is very saddened to announce the passing of our beloved family matriarch Mariette Benoit Etienne on May 3, 2021 at the age of 89. Mariette was born in Gonaives, Haiti on May 31, 1931 to Paula Saint Amand, and Valmeus Benoit. She was a graduate of the prestigious Haitian school Elie DuBois, where she studied the culinary arts. She was also an administrative assistant for the Haitian National palace for a decade of her career. In December of 1961 she married attorney Pierre Faidherbe Etienne, together they had four boys who were the most important part of her life.
Mariette enjoyed spending time with her siblings, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Mariette was dearly known to all for continuously keeping the family in contact. She remembered all birthdays and major milestone accomplishments.
Mariette is survived by three of her sons: Dr. Jean Richard Etienne, Dr. Jacques Edouard Etienne, and Albert Patrick Etienne; her daughters-in-law, Veronica, Lydia, Sherley and Marjorie; her grandchildren Ashley, Kayla, Sebastian, Laurie, Isaac, Noah, Ezekiel Etienne; her brothers Dr. Charles Benoit, and Dr Joachim Joseph Benoit, and her sisters Renee Benoit, and Denise Cadet; and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pierre Faidherbe Etienne, her son Georges Philippe Etienne, her mother Paula Saint Amand, her father Valmeus Benoit, her brother Pierre Benoit, and her sister Marie Therese Pierre-Jacques. Honorable mention to the surviving families: Etienne, Benoit, Barthole, Pierre-Jacques, Pierre-Louis, and Champagne.
