Marie Nelca Figaro was an excellent mother, woman of faith, and a compassionate presence to all who had the privilege of crossing her path. She was born in Jacmel, Haiti, to Anita Raymond and Maurice Figaro.
Marie was a devoted and loving mother who went above and beyond—not only for her children, Pierre Antoine and Joanne Carmelle Rene, and her beloved granddaughter, Tahlia Gourgue—but also for everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness, strength, and generosity touched countless lives.
In Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Marie shared her knowledge and passion for education as she served as a professor. She later immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, in pursuit of greater opportunities. There, she worked tirelessly to build a better life for herself and her family.
From a young age, Marie felt a deep calling to serve God. She dedicated her life as a faithful servant in the Catholic Church, a commitment she continued unwaveringly after immigrating to the United States in 1984. For more than 30 years, she served her church community with passion and humility. She prepared children for their First Communion, assisted with confessions, and supported countless parishioners through services.
