Biography
Marie Myrtha Severin was born in Bainet, Haiti on July 23, 1949, to Dumond and Eugenie Fleurantin.
On Sunday June 18, 2023, the Lord called Marie home after a long illness.
Myrtha, as she was known to most, moved to Port-au-Prince as a young girl and lived with her godmother to pursue better education opportunities. In her teenage years, Myrtha became friends with her future sister-in-law, Immacula Severin. During a chance visit at Immacula’s house, Myrtha met her future husband, Immacula’s oldest brother Marcel. The two fell in love and were married on July 6, 1968.
Myrtha immigrated to New York in 1971 to join her husband in hopes of a better life. Myrtha worked most of her life as a Nurse’s Aide, taking care of those in need, while also lovingly taking care of her family.
Myrtha loved reading, especially mystery novels, doing word search puzzles, listening to music, and watching musicals. She was an exceptional cook and always showcased her best meals on Sunday after church, for her family. Myrtha was deeply spiritual and always placed God at the center of her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Marcel, her children Emmanuella, Ralph, Mike, Jennifer, and Christina, her son-in-law Steve and grandson Dante. Her siblings Louis Dumenais (sister-in-law Pauline), Alourdes (brother-in-law Piertive), Marie Vanie (brother-in-law Arnold), Pierre-Luc (sister-in-law Yanick), and Marie Josette (brother-in-law Renald). Sisters-in-law Immacula (brother-in-law Alex), and Anne-Marie, brothers-in-law Antoine (sister-in-law Orella), and Andre, two godsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Eugenie, father Dumond, younger brother Berthony, and mother-in-law Sophie.
