Marie Edouard Obituary

Marie Bernard Edouard, known as “Ti Chou” left this world peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2020. She was eighty four years old.

Ti Chou was born on June 27, 1936 in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti to the late Adrien Edouard and the late Vertulie St Amand. The family relocated to Gonaives, Haiti where Ti Chou spent most of her childhood. Her parents soon realized  that she was a child with special needs and was challenged with a severe speech disability. They showered her with attention, nurtured her so completely and loved her unconditionally. Her grandmother took special care of her and instilled in her the love of God and the Virgin Mary that she kept to the day she died. Many years later, the family was blessed with another daughter, Gracita, and the two sisters grew up sharing a very special bond. As their parents immigrated to Africa then to the United States, they remained together.

Ti Chou could not talk like most of us do and her walking was a little bit unstable, but when her father, her mother, her grandmother, her sister, her cousins, her nieces and nephews, her friends, her caregivers, everyone around her looked at her, they seldom saw what she couldn’t do. Instead, they saw what she could do and who she was: an
intelligent and strong minded character who developed her own vocabulary to be able to communicate with her loved ones. Everyone close to her understood “Ti Chou’s language” as we all called it.

Ti Chou was an uncomplicated, mild mannered, fun and friendly person who loved life, loved to dress, loved to dance, loved to eat and would not negotiate her plate of rice, which was one of her favorite foods. She enjoyed traveling with her parents and her sister. Many vacations trotting around the world were spent in France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Congo, to name just a few. While living abroad, she would return frequently to her native land of Haiti where she had many many friends.

She was definitely loved by everyone who knew her and she will leave fun memories behind. She is survived by her sister Gracita Edouard Andrieux, niece Melissa Andrieux, nephew Reginald Andrieux, wife Sara and their three children, nephew Erik Andrieux, cousin Therese Arty Mucci and family, and many cousins.

The family would like to give special thanks to Ti Chou’s caregiver, Maria Rodriguez , for her many many years of caring, love and affection. We rest assured that Ti Chou is now in Heaven and will be watching over us.
