Obituary for Louis Frantz Alcindor
Louis Frantz Alcindor, lovingly known as Franky or Koky, passed away June 24th in New Hyde Park, Long Island. Born on February 19, 1943, in Jeremie, Haiti, Louis was the beloved second son of Pressigny Alcindor and Elcinette Alcindor ((née Gaston). He was baptized at St. Louis Cathedrale in Jeremie and later became a parishioner of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elmont, NY.
Louis married Marjorie Alcindor (née Hector), in 1972. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children: Frantz Louis Alcindor, Pressigny Bernard Alcindor, and Valerie Diane Alcindor. His legacy continues through his five cherished grandchildren: Nouri, Nasser, Frantz, Madison, and Sophie.
A trailblazer for his family, Louis was the first of his siblings to immigrate to the United States, opening doors for the rest of his family. His siblings include Joseph Woolley Alcindor (deceased), Jacqueline Alcindor, Raymonde Alcindor, Marie Eve Alcindor (deceased), and Jean-Pierre Alcindor.
Franky’s journey in the United States had its challenges, but his determination and hard work led him to a very successful career as an accountant. He earned an accounting diploma from Institut Technique D’enseignement Commercial (Technical Institute of Commercial Education) in Port au Prince in 1969 and initially worked for the Bank of Haiti. Encouraged by his mother, Elcinette, Louis moved to New York to seek better opportunities. He worked for esteemed financial institutions, including American Express and Manufacturers Hanover (now JP Morgan Chase). In 1981, he earned a BS in Accounting from Queens College and worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development until his retirement in 2010. He was a proud naturalized US citizen who embodied the American dream.
Franky enjoyed spending time with loved ones, watching sports, working on his house, and gardening. His belief in the Holy Spirit and devotion to the Virgin Mary were important to him. Louis’s zest for life were evident in the annual "Three Kings Day" celebrations he hosted, where his home was filled with joy, laughter, and dance.
Louis is survived by his wife, Marjorie, his children and their spouses, Frantz and Nikisha Alcindor, Pressigny and Muthla Alcindor, and Valerie and Sorrell Carr, his grandchildren, and his siblings Jacqueline, Raymonde, and Jean-Pierre. Our father, brother and friend will be deeply missed. His legacy of love, dedication, and hard work will forever be remembered.
