Joyce Iris Webster, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on December 22, 2024. Born on August 1, 1931, in Westmoreland, Jamaica, to Kathleen Daley and William Fletcher, she was affectionately known as “Mama G” by her entire family. Joyce received her early education at St. John’s Kindergarten, followed by Caledonia Elementary School and Beaufort Elementary School in Darliston. Joyce made a lasting impact as a talented hairdresser, touching the lives of many with her skill and warmth.
Joyce left Darliston and relocated to Sav-la-Mar where she worked in the food industry. In 1954, she married Gaston Webster in Sav-la-Mar and later moved to Waterworks. In 1958, Joyce moved to England to join her husband, settling in Manchester, where she continued to work as a hairdresser. She returned to Jamaica in 1965, where she continued her career as a hairdresser until she migrated to the United States in 1969. While in the United States, Joyce worked as a caregiver before working at Skalet Jewelry Manufacturing in administration until her retirement from the workforce.
Joyce touched the lives of many with her unwavering faith in God, which gave her the strength to raise her child, as well as those she lovingly adopted and cared for as a single parent. She was a devoted, caring, and affectionate mother, deeply loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Always generous, she made sure there was never a time when she didn’t have a meal ready for anyone who visited her home. Her warmth and kindness will be remembered by all who experienced her hospitality and love.
She was deeply concerned for the well-being of her family and friends, always offering support and helping both friends and relatives in caring for their children. Her influence was significant in their spiritual and social development, serving as a guiding light that led them toward lives of fulfillment and productivity.
She will be reunited with her mother, Kathleen Daley; father, William Fletcher; granddaughter, Tanya Rawles; grandson, Leroy Foster Jr.; sister, Myrtle Johnson, and other close relatives. She is survived by her son, Leroy Foster, daughter-in-law, Regina Foster; great grandchildren, Nyla Rawles and Sean Rawles II; son-in-law, Sean Rawles; siblings, Monica Thomas, Vivette Blake, Cherry Fletcher, Sharon Fletcher, Noel Fletcher, Robbie Fletcher, and Patrick Fletcher.
