Jean M. Paler Obituary

How does one measure a life well lived?

By the number of lives the person touched. Jean Monica Paler, a beloved mother and grandmother, lived a remarkable life. She began her life in Richmond, St. Mary on the island of Jamaica. There was no more beautiful place than her homeland. After emigrating to the United States, she married and had three children.

Jean was fiercely protective of her children and grandson, always going above and beyond to ensure their happiness and safety. She was a kind, nurturing, and generous soul, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her warm, welcoming nature made her beloved by many, and she was always seen as the one to turn to when something needed to be done.

Jean had many passions outside of her children, most notably quilting and sewing. Coming from a long line of seamstresses, Jean’s talent was apparent in everything she created. She could have opened her own store from the many bolts of fabric and equipment that filled her basement. Her culinary skills were equally impressive, and were enjoyed and remembered by all who tasted her dishes.

But perhaps Jean's greatest passion was dancing. Her infectious energy and joy lit up the dance floor at every gathering she attended. Her love of music and dancing had a long-lasting influence on her own children, who woke up to Bob Marley or Gregory Isaacs every Saturday morning and now know the lyrics not only to music of their times, but also Motown and old school reggae.

When informed of her passing, the many people who knew and loved Jean spoke of the many ways she touched their lives. Her kind nature, warm hugs, and loving presence will be sorely missed. But her legacy lives on in those who had the blessing of knowing her.

Jean M. Paler, age 80, passed away on March 7, 2023. She is survived by her three daughters: Lisa (Luis), Renee, and Tracy (Thomas), and her grandson Jordan. Jean's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
