Jean Dieumil Altino
March 19, 1943 – February 15, 2025
Jean Dieumil Altino, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Elmont, New York, on February 15, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on March 19, 1943, in Ganthier, Haiti, to Fortuna Ocsainvil and Leconte Altino, Jean was the fourth of five siblings. He pursued his education at JB Damier Vocational School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he trained as a carpenter—a craft that became both his passion and his talent.
In 1969, Jean married the love of his life, Armante Altino. A year later, he immigrated to New York to build a better future, reuniting with his wife in 1971. Their enduring love spanned more than 55 years, during which they raised six children: Marjorie Altino, Wanda Altino Rhodes (Kenneth), Arden Altino (Suzie), Edson Altino (Nakisha), Ervens Altino (Chante), and Jesse Altino.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Jean spent 28 years working at the World Trade Center and also served at the Northeastern Conference for several years. Outside of work, he was a gifted artist and musician, finding joy in drawing, playing the saxophone and guitar, and crafting through carpentry. His skillful hands and creative spirit made him a true “jack of all trades.”
Jean’s faith was the foundation of his life. Originally a member of the Baptist denomination, he later converted to the Seventh-day Adventist faith in his 20s. A devoted member of Linden Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 45 years, he served as a deacon and sang in the sanctuary choir, using his voice and service to glorify God.
Jean’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a loving patriarch, known for his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He leaves behind his wife, six children, ten grandchildren—Samantha Rogers, Charles Badger, Donte’ Romain, Elijah Romain, Kayla Altino, Christian Altino, Aiden Altino, Khloe Altino, Billion Altino, and Layla Altino—and three great-grandchildren, Kylie Rogers, Elle Rogers, and Jordan Badger. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Carder, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including the Altino, Azemar, and Negri families.
Jean is preceded in death by his siblings Lecome, Altemez, and Saintemaine.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of faith, family, and hard work will continue to inspire generations to come.
