Grover E. McKenzie, 90, died unexpectedly August 6, 2021 at Long Island Jewish Hospital. He was born October 21, 1930, in Brooklyn NY, son of Thomas and Alma (Frankson) McKenzie. Grover was a high school graduate, concentrated in photography, Class of 1948. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served one year. Due to provisions of the Selective Service Act of 1948, Grover was transferred to the U.S. Naval Reserves for an additional six years. In 1951 he was activated from reserves and served in the Korean War. After completing his military duty, he returned to Brooklyn and married his sweetheart Jane Wharton. They settled in Brooklyn, then moved to Rochdale Village in Jamaica Queens, 1963. He lived there until his passing. He loved Rochdale Village so much that he joined the New York City Auxiliary Police and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Grover worked over 50 years as an accountant for New York Merchants Protective Alarm Company until his retirement. Grover was a loyal member of the Royal Order of the Masonic Masons, Manhattan Lodge #1170 . In addition, he ran the Rochdale Village Federal Credit Union. He liked to gamble and took the bus to Atlantic City. He was an avid sports fan. He loved music, movies and westerns. He had the best laugh ever and was kind to everyone. He was one of a kind.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by wife Jane, son Scott, sisters Dorit, Herman, Vivia and Emerald. Surviving are his daughter Donna of Montclair, N.J.; his son Craig with wife Celeste of Charlotte, N.C.; Daughter in-law Shermin; seven grandchildren, Denzel McKenzie, Rychelle McKenzie, Tyler McKenzie, Brandon McKenzie-Nozari, Craig McKenzie Jr.,Taylor McKenzie and Hunter Mckenzie-Nozari; and nieces and nephews.
