Announcement of Passing

Gladie Lundy, 89, of Elmont, New York, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at the Grand Pavilion at Rockville Centre. 

Birth and Family Background

She was born on August 31, 1936, in Les Cayes, Haiti, to Englade and Octavie Eveillard. The fifth of seven children, she grew up surrounded by a loving family. She was preceded in death by her siblings Girard Eveillard, Annette Romulus, Ghislaine Eveillard, and William Eveillard. She is survived by her sisters, Marie Lucie Gauvin and Claudine Simon.

Marriage and Family

In 1963, Gladie married the love of her life, Fritzbert “Dou Dou” Lundy. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four children: Gina, Rony, Sandra, and Steve. She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren — Allen, Soraya, Nia, Jamie, Julien, Tori, Tajh, Francis, Dylan, and Yasmine — and a loving great-grandmother to Nash, Amara, Gabriel, Delilah, and Legend. 

Professional Life and Talents

Gladie’s professional journey included work in both culinary arts and accounting, with important roles at the National Library of Haiti and the Cour Supérieur des Comptes, where she served in accounting. She also attended culinary school, becoming a master baker and skilled seamstress. She was well known for her tiered cakes, custom clothing, and her generosity in sharing her talents with her children, grandchildren, and community.

Community and Personal Qualities

An active member of her church, Gladie faithfully volunteered her time and gifts to support community events. She will be remembered for her strength, generosity, humor, honesty, and her remarkable ability to teach, nurture, and inspire others. Her love for baking, her dedication to her family, and her fearless spirit made her a pillar in her home and community.

Survivors and Predeceased

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her sisters Marie Lucie Gauvin and Claudine Simeon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritzbert Lundy; her granddaughter Jamie; her parents, Englade and Octavie Eveilard; and her siblings Girard, Annette, Ghislaine, and William.

Service Information

A Homegoing Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 3:00 PM at O’Brien Funeral Home in Elmont, NY, followed by the Repast at 6:30 PM at L’Antailles Caterers.
