Florence Maria Carwin (age 76), a longtime resident of Rosedale, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday May 3, 2020. Born in Westmoreland, on the island of Jamaica on March 1, 1944, she was the third child of Austin Leopold McCarthy and Francella Lee Clayton.
She is survived by her devoted son Alexander Smith, and his wife Deloris, also her husband of 45 years, Reginald Carwin. Predeceased by her parents and older brother Walter Gerald McCarthy, she leaves behind her sister Alvida Fullerton and a loving clan of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, her church family at Parkway Baptist Church, a host of close and lifelong friends and her “new clan” at the Theodora Jackson Adult Center, Jamaica, Queens.
Florence worked for the Accountant General’s department in Jamaica before emigrating to the United States in 1984. After 20 years of dedicated service at New York City’s Department of Consumer Affairs, she retired in December 2010 as a Clerical Associate. Lovingly known as Aunt Flor, she taught all who knew her to love unconditionally. Her kindness, selflessness and love knew no bounds.
Florence accepted the Lord as her Savior and we know confidently that she now rests with Him. She will be greatly missed.
