Dorothy Yvonne Maria Braham was born on January 16, 1940, to Monica and Henry Braham in Jamaica, West Indies. She was the eldest of five children: Mary, David, Chris and Rodger.
After graduating from high school, she joined our mother in the US in the late 1950’s. She became a US citizen in June 1984. She pursued a career as a practical nurse and as landlady of an apartment building in Brooklyn. She later purchased a home in Queens, where she lived. She was an astute business woman and made good investments. She was very aesthetically inclined maintaining her home and surroundings in mint condition.
By nature, she was a very caring and loving person. She was also loyal, kind, generous and compassionate. A spit-fire, at times, ruffling feathers.
Although she was single and never had children, she was mother, aunt, and grandmother to many. She took meticulous care of our mother for many years as well as our Aunt Hilda. Additionally, she saw to the care of two extended family members. She loved children and animals and her beloved dog Namu. Her hobbies included gardening, dining out, shopping (especially on QVC), and watching home decorating, cooking, financial, and news shows. She just turned eighty-four in January outliving two siblings, Rodger and David. She was hospitalized on January 8 then discharged to rehab on February 1, 2024 where sadly she passed on February 4, 2024.
She is survived by her siblings, Mary and Chris and sisters-in-laws Elsie and Viviene and four nieces; Martine, Nicole, Tina, Julia, four nephews; Thierry, Kal, Rohan and Erik and Tina’s spouse Tavaris and Rohan’s spouse Shaleen. She is also survived by nine grandnieces and grandnephews, the Braham and Carter cousins, the Brices, four godchildren and many friends and extended family.
