Diego Paler, 83, died March 7, 2022 in his beloved Bronx, NY. If a song could encapsulate his life it would be Sinatra’s “My Way.”
“I’ve lived a life that’s full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way.”
Anyone who knew Diego has a story which makes them laugh and shake their head at the same time. Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico in 1938, he moved to East Harlem in 1949. From his humble beginnings, he worked hard, served in the Navy and became a pharmacist. Through his intellect, street smarts, and sheer tenacity, he became a successful businessman with the central focus of providing for his family. He loved baseball, going to Broadway shows and the finer things in life. When he finally retired, he traveled, ate, argued, and ate some more. He enjoyed his life and lived it to the fullest.
Diego leaves behind a sister, Leticia; five children, Lisa, Renée, Tracy, Matthews, and Marcus; and one grandson, Jordan.
Family, friends, and others who wish to pay respects are invited to O’Brien-Sheipe Funeral Home, 640 Elmont Road, Elmont, NY 11003 for a viewing from 10-12 on Friday, March 11. Immediately following the viewing, will be a brief service.
