CALVIN BASS
FEBRUARY 03, 1947 – MAY 6, 2024
Calvin Bass, man of virtue and good humor, entered into eternal peace on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the age of seventy-seven.
Calvin was born in Faison, North Carolina on February 3, 1947, to the late Rachel Jackson and James Marshall Bell. He moved to New York City at the age of 18 after graduating from Hargrove High School. He later attended and studied Information Technology at DeVry Institute. Calvin was employed as a Computer Specialist for the United States Department of Defense where he retired after 30 years of service.
Calvin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family, friends, and community and served them all faithfully during his lifetime. He met the love of his life, Gloria Bass, in Brooklyn where the couple married on September 16, 1972. The couple was married for 51 years. From that union came two children and three grandchildren to whom he was fiercely devoted. Calvin and Gloria enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends and traveling the world.
Calvin never met a stranger and was always willing to go the extra mile for anyone in need. He had a keen sense of humor and loved “cracking” jokes and listening to his favorite tunes while attempting to “dance”. He embodied a caring nature and loving heart. Calvin lived his life on earth to the fullest through simple pleasures. His favorite pastimes included spending time with his family and friends and watching his favorite TV shows. Calvin was loved by everyone who knew him, and he will be dearly missed by all.
He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his; devoted wife, Gloria, two children, Calvin (Kinshasa) and Chawanda; three grandchildren, Calia, Najah, and Eric “Matthew”; his identical twin, Alvin, sister, Jacqueline (Victor) and brother, Bernard, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia.
