Andrelle M. Alcindor was born in Cavaillon, Haiti, on April 9, 1927, to Telcina August and Leis Mercier. She was married to her beloved husband, Antonio L. Alcindor, until his passing in 2012. Andrelle was the proud mother of eight children, three boys and five girls. She was blessed to become a grandmother to 26 caring grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A talented seamstress and business owner, Andrelle was known for her determination, skill, and strong work ethic. Later, she immigrated to the United States to pursue new opportunities, carrying with her the resilience and dedication that had shaped her life.
Our mother, Andrelle, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 98. She is survived by her seven children; her firstborn son had already passed away. She also leaves behind 26 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 stepson (her second stepson, who previously died), 1 stepdaughter, 13 step-grandchildren, and 9 step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many extended family members. Although she gave birth to eight children, her heart embraced many more. Her home was always open to those going through tough times, offering warmth, comfort, and guidance. Over the years, many called her “Mom,” reflecting the nurturing spirit she freely shared with others.
Known for her radiant smile and gentle, motherly spirit, our mother had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and valued. Even in her later years, those who cared for her grew to love her as family. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith in helping others shaped the lives of her children and everyone who knew her. Our mother leaves behind an incredible legacy of love, strength, and compassion. Though her absence is deeply felt, the lessons she embodied, being kind, helping others, and opening your heart and home, will continue to guide those whose lives she touched.
