Almerinda Evelyn Caputo Obituary

Almerinda Evelyn Caputo was born on November 24, 1945 in Queens, NY to the proud parents of Maria and Philip Carnevale.  She was the youngest of four children born to this union.  Evelyn spent her childhood with her sister, Lucy and her brothers, Vito and Nicholas.

Evelyn went to PS 16 in Corona, Queens and completed her formal education at Flushing High School.  She displayed an exemplary work ethic, excelling in math and writing. In her youth, she loved dancing to doo wop music, had a sharp fashion sense and even played the accordion.  Evelyn was a true city girl, working at Pan Am, riding the 7, and enjoyed shopping on her break at her favorite fashion boutique, Strawberry’s.  She went on to work as a teacher’s aide at St. Boniface and Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Schools.

In 1973, Evelyn married the love of her life, Francis Anthony Caputo and they lived together in Elmont, NY for 31 years, until Frank’s passing in 2004.  She is survived by her three children:  Francis, Christina and Maria and her five grandchildren: JJ, Damian, Francis Jr, Santino and Izabella.  Family meant everything to her, that's why she always said, “Sempre Famiglia”, which means, Always Family.

To know Evelyn, also known as “Eve”, was to love her.  She was a woman of love, hope, faith, compassion, loyalty, courage and strength.  Her kind and gentle heart was extended to everyone she knew and met throughout her life   Evelyn’s devotion to her faith was unwavering and was her guiding light.

In her leisure, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, entertaining, cooking family meals, listening to music, especially oldies and Andrea Bocelli, baking with her granddaughter Izabella and word puzzles.  She especially loved the saying, “Tutti a tavola a mangiare”, which means, “Everyone to the table to eat!”   In her quiet time she enjoyed journaling, meditating and saying the rosary, with a special devotion to Mother Mary and The Divine Mercy, ending each journal entry with, “Jesus, I trust in you”.

Evelyn went home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2023.  Now reunited with her true love; “The sound of two hearts” beats again - as inscribed on their wedding bands. She was a truly special soul and was loved by all.  She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all her loving family, friends and everyone whose life she touched.  We will rejoice in a life well lived; a heart full of love and grace, and the blessed assurance that we will see her at Heaven’s gates to welcome us home to Jesus.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
