Alberte Marie Chery

Alberte Marie Chery was born in Haiti on December 8th, 1934.The daughter of Jules Soljour, she had five sisters and one brother. 

Alberte left Haiti in 1970 leaving behind four children Antoine, Rose Laure, Berman and Myrlande to find a better life for them in the United States. Alberte moved to Brooklyn, New York and worked for many years as a domestic cleaner and factory worker.

In 1971, Alberte met and married Ernest Chery. Ernest had four children of his own and the couple became a blended family. In 1972  Ernest and Alberte had twin girls Maguy and Magaly Chery.  The couple worked very hard and went on to become successful business owners in Brooklyn, New York.

 Alberte worked and made many sacrifices to bring all four of her children from Haiti to the United States where they all thrived and built a life for themselves. In the late 1980's the family relocated to Queens, New York because Alberte felt it would be a better environment for her children. Alberte always stressed the importance of having an education and made sure her hard work did not go in vain. Alberte enjoyed taking English classes at the local library, became a certified nurses aid and finally certified child care provider. Alberte enjoyed raising her children and caring for all of her grandchildren. All of her grandchildren loved spending time with her because she was filled with wisdom and she was the heart of the family.

Alberte is survived by her husband Ernest of 52 years and her children Tony Soljour, Rose Alexis Achille, Berman Alexis, Mylande Alexis, Maguy Chery Jabradally and Magaly Chery Edwards followed by her grandchildren Ashley Soljour, Rosney Soljour, Eunice-Rose Soljour, Daniel Achille, Sabine Achille-Morgan, Maxine Achille, Gesley- Ann Alexis Arsenault, Dimitri Alexis, Tracy Nelson, Steve Nelson, Jordan Rene, Jonathan Albert Jabradally, Jayson Michael Jabradally, Justin Joe Jabradally. 

Her great grandchildren are Christian Nathaniel Soljour, Kingston Alexander Soljour, Caleb Pinnock, Evan Pinnock, Braylen Paul Morgan, Bryce Donovan Morgan, Mariah Lina Normil, Olivia Sage Nelson, Alicia Lael Nelson.

Alberte Chery passed away on July 10th comfortably at home surrounded by loved ones. Our hearts are heavy but we are blessed to have experienced her love. The house will never be the same. Images of her sitting on her chair looking out the window and watching people walking by reminds us not to let a moment go by without appreciating life and welcoming family in. You are our Sunshine and you will never be far away from our hearts.
