Rosemate L. Chery was born in Jacmel, Haiti. She was the oldest child of the late Souvillon Novembre and Marie Lina Etienne. It’s in Jacmel that she met Emmanuel Chery. They had their first born, Sandra in 1980. In 1983, they welcomed their younger daughter, Rachelle. By that time, the family had moved from Jacmel to Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
In Haiti, Rosemate spent many years working as an auxiliary nurse. She was very devoted to her career. She was that well-admired nurse in the neighborhood to whom people would reach out to for things such as delivering babies, vaccinating kids or doing somebody’s wound care. She often told stories about how her patients from the countryside of Jacmel would bring her special treats such as yams, plantains or a rooster to show their appreciation.
In 1990, Rosemate moved to NY where she’s been living until her death.
She was very generous and loved helping people. She would sacrifice herself and would go above and beyond to help. She cherished her church where she was a very active member.
She also loved to cook. She didn’t have much but in her tiny apartment kitchen, she would prepare the tastiest meals for her family, her church groups and her friends.
She also loved to travel. She had been on several trips around the world. Her dream was to visit the Holy land. Last year she found that her dream would finally become true as she was planning her trip to the Holy Land with her church group. She was very excited about that trip. On August 7th, she said goodbye to her daughters before boarding the plane to the Holy Land.
She was in her hotel room in Israel on August 16th, 2018 when she was found unresponsive in her bed. And the rest is history…
She always said that August was her favorite month. Both her daughters got married in August. Her granddaughter Becky was born in August and her grandson Ryan was just born on August 3rd, 2018. She went to be with the Lord in August 16th, 2018.
She is survived by her daughters Sandra Charles and Rachelle Chery Alouidor, her grandkids, Jonathan Charles, Alexxandra Charles, Rebekah Alouidor, and Ryan Alouidor, her sons-in-law Jonas Charles and Ricardo Alouidor as well as beloved nephews, nieces, cousins.
