Myron McLean Obituary

Myron Ernie McLean, affectionately called “Bunny”, was born on December 18th, 1950, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, to Iris Miller and Fredrick McLean. After completing his primary education, Myron attended St. Andrew Technical High School. From there he attended and graduated from the University of Technology formerly known as the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST) where he earned a diploma in electrical installation. He continued his studies and became a licensed electrician.

Myron relocated from Kingston to Manchester, where he worked as an Electrical Installation teacher at Alston High School for several years.  He then taught at Holmwood Technical High School until 2003 when he migrated to the United States of America.  Prior to migrating, he was chosen by the Ministry of Education in 1999 as an Ambassador to Japan for all the technical high schools in Jamaica.

Until his retirement in 2013, Myron worked as project engineer and safety manager at GarTech Electrical Company. He also volunteered his services at Franklin Hospital after his retirement.

Myron loved the Lord. This led him to become an ardent member of the Valley Stream Baptist Church, where he sang on the choir and was vice-president of the Men’s Fellowship.

“Bunny” will always be loved by friends and family. He will be remembered as remarkable, pleasant, loving, and generous. Myron was a family man.  He met Amour Vaughan while they were both teaching at Alston Secondary High School and got married  on December 31st, 1975.  Their union of 43 years produced two wonderful sons—Craig and Kevin.

Over the past several months, Myron suffered a series of strokes. He succumbed to his illness and gave up his residence on this earth on April 5th, 2019, at North Shore University Hospital. Myron was sixty-eight years old.

“Bunny” will be remembered and cherished by his loving wife Amour, children Craig (Kyla), Kevin and wife Jody, grandchildren Zoe and Zea, brother—Leonard McLean and wife Cam, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Myron was preceded in death by his mother Iris Miller and his brother Roy Stanford.
