OBITUARY

Jose Joseph, 72 years of age, resident of Elmont, New York, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at his home after a short illness. He was born on October 17, 1946 in Kerala, India to the late Joseph Koottumkal and Mariamma Joseph who loved him dearly. Jose was a loyal and committed member of the Indian army upon graduating from high school.  In 1978, he moved with his family to the United States building their home in Queens, New York, before moving to Elmont, New York in 1983.  Jose was employed by the New York City Transit Authority where he retired in 2000. He was a man of faith becoming an active member of the Indian Knanaya Catholic Community of Greater New York and Saint Boniface Parish in Elmont for the last 35 years. Jose was known as a fan of playing cards by his buddies whom he loved to challenge almost every day.

He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 46 years, Mariamma Jose; a beloved son Sunil Jose & daughter in-law Huma Jose and daughter Mary Jose, three brothers, Mathew Joseph, Kuriakose Joseph, and the late Uthup Joseph, two sisters, the late Mariamma Joseph and the late Annamma Thomas, three nephews, Joy Thomas, Reji Thomas and Sibil Thomas and four nieces, Elsy Andrews, Shiny Lali, Beena Alex and Jolly Varghese. The joy of his life were his granddaughters Ria and Zara Jose.  Jose also leaves a number of great nephews and nieces whom he cherished as much as they adored him; especially Jinsy, Thampan and Appu. He’ll be deeply missed by neighbors who respected him and were there for the family when needed such as George Joseph, Phillip Kurvilla, Mathew Vazapily and many others. 

A viewing will be held on November 4, 2018 at O’Brien-Sheipe Funeral Home located at 640 Elmont Road, Elmont, New York 11003.

Funeral service will be November 5, 2018 at Saint Boniface Roman Catholic Church located at 631 Elmont Road, Elmont, New York 11003.

Interment entrusted to O’Brien-Sheipe Funeral Home will be at Greenfield Cemetery located at 650 Nassau Road, Uniondale, New York 11553. Fellowship with the family at Kerala Kitchen immediately following the burial at 267-05 Hillside Avenue, Glen Oaks, New York 11004.
