John Anthony Thompson was born on December 25, 1929 in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. He was the only child born to William Thompson and Rosey Dunkley. John lost his parents as a child and was raised by his Aunt Mangri.

John attended Lionel Town Elementary School. He then continued his education at DintHill Technical High School in St. Catherine. After graduating from high school, John worked in the accounting department at Moneymus Sugar Estates. John then accepted a position at Guardian Life Insurance Company where he worked as a Life Underwriter. In 1967 John met and married Beverlyn Thompson. They immigrated to the United States in 1968 where together, they raised five children. He became a U.S. citizen on February 23, 1981. John worked for Citibank, General Motors and then Amsco Publications in Manhattan. He retired from Amsco Publications in 1995. After retiring, John pursued various business ventures.

John was a man of few words. When he spoke, however, everyone listened. John enjoyed discussing politics and business news. He was also very industrious and had a strong faith in God. John frequently quoted bible verses, sang gospel songs and loved listening to Billy Graham’s sermons. He also had an extraordinary sense of humor. John lived life to the fullest and enjoyed simple pleasures which included spending time with his family, playing dominoes and socializing with friends while being impeccably dressed. He also loved attending and watching horse racing events. John appreciated music and liked listening to music by Cristy Lane, Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole.

John’s proudest accomplishment was his children. He was a devoted and loving father. John found pleasure in combing his daughters’ hair, cooking meals, assisting with homework and encouraging his children. He was a great father. John was adored by many and his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him.

John passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of January 16, 2017, after a short illness. John leaves behind to celebrate his life, Beverlyn; his loving children, Michael, Ransford, Andrea, Simone, and Natalie who was his main caretaker; grandchildren, K’shaun, Kaiane, Ariel, Jayden, Brandon, Seth, Diamond, Jordan, Morgan and Jaiya; great grandchild, Ava; sons-in-law, Jonathan and Nathan; close relatives and friends, Hazel, Baity, Joyce, Carol, Danny, Chequetta, Joe and Rosetta; and a host of dear family members and friends.

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday...

Unseen, unheard, but always near.

Still loved, still missed and very dear.
